Wekiva hasn't had much luck against West Orange recently, but that could start to change on Monday. While Wekiva's victory against Lake Buena Vista wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Wekiva sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 17-16 win over Lake Buena Vista on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Vipers: they've now won four in a row.
Wekiva got a massive performance out of Camilla Delgado, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. What's more, Delgado posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Janelle Rodriguez was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Wekiva kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, West Orange was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 14-1 to Cornerstone Charter Academy.
West Orange saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cynthia Cummings, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Wekiva's record now sits at 3-6. As for West Orange, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.
West Orange's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Wekiva hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. It's a different story for West Orange, though, as they've only averaged .259. Will they be able to contain Wekiva's hitters?
Wekiva suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to West Orange in their previous matchup back in February of 2021. Can Wekiva avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
