Lamar is 0-6 against Mt. Vernon since April of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Tigers will be playing at home against the Mountaineers at 5:00 p.m.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Lamar's offense. They came up short against El Dorado Springs on Tuesday, falling 13-0. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Tigers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Lamar saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaxsyn Lovan, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mt. Vernon). They came out on top against Ash Grove by a score of 15-11 on Monday. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Mountaineers, who until this contest were averaging 4.09 runs allowed.
Emily Schubert made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Schubert was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, Rae Downing was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lilly Burk, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.
Mt. Vernon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Mt. Vernon has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Lamar, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Lamar has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .483. However, it's not like Mt. Vernon struggles in that department as they've averaged .440. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lamar suffered a grim 15-5 defeat to Mt. Vernon in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Tigers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
