On Wednesday, the Blackfoot Broncos faced the Shelley Russets in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Blackfoot was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 58-57 to Shelley. Blackfoot's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Blackfoot lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jaci Capson, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Capson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Marlee Pieper was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with two steals.
Blackfoot's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-7. As for Shelley, their victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-0.
Blackfoot will head out on the road to face off against Hillcrest at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hillcrest has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 8. As for Shelley, they will be playing at home against Idaho Falls at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Idaho Falls will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Idaho Rankings (they are ranked 90th, while Shelley is ranked third).
