Albemarle hasn't had much luck against Louisa County recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Patriots will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lions at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Albemarle took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They blew past Charlottesville 15-4. The high-scoring effort was just what the Patriots needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Ava Whiteman made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. Whiteman was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sam Armstrong, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Anaiyah Powell was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.
Albemarle hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Charlottesville struck out six times.
Meanwhile, Louisa County had just enough and edged out Western Albemarle 6-5 on Wednesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lions.
Louisa County let Lauren Goodman and Alyssa Hopkins run wild. Goodman went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI, while Hopkins went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Those runs were Goodman's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Laci Garrett, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Louisa County's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Albemarle, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-5.
Albemarle might still be hurting after the 21-1 loss they got from Louisa County in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Patriots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
