The McKeel Academy Wildcats came tearing into Thursday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 38-33 win over Lakeland Christian. That result was just more of the same for these two, as McKeel Academy also won the last time the pair played last Thursday.
McKeel Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jenna Jordan led the charge by scoring 16 points along with seven rebounds. It was the first time this season that Jordan scored 15 or more points. Nicaria McHellon was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven steals.
Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Collette Zavada, who scored eight points along with five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiya Boyce, who scored two points along with five rebounds and three steals.
McKeel Academy pushed their record up to 16-9 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Lakeland Christian, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-8 record this season.
McKeel Academy will be playing at home against Discovery at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. McKeel Academy is facing Discovery at the right time seeing as Discovery is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Lakeland Christian, they will square off against Four Corners at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Lakeland Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Thursday.
