The Toronto Red Knights will head out to take on the Monroe Central Seminoles at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Friday, Toronto got the win against Wellsville by a conclusive 17-11. The result was nothing new for the Red Knights, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Anna Wright, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jaylee Brown, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Toronto was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Monroe Central and Beallsville, and Monroe Central kept the tradition alive. The Seminoles' pitcher stepped up to hand the Blue Devils a 14-0 shutout last Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Seminoles in their matchups with the Blue Devils: they've now won three in a row.
Monroe Central got a massive performance out of Allie McFredrick, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. McFredrick is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Karsyn Muncy also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.
Toronto's record now sits at 9-11. As for Monroe Central, the victory got them back to even at 10-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Toronto has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Monroe Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Toronto couldn't quite get it done against Monroe Central in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-1. Can the Red Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
