Versailles is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Thursday. They will head out on the road to square off against the Parkway Panthers at 5:00 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Versailles has struggled recently with seven losses in a row, while Parkway will arrive with eight straight wins.
Versailles fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Russia on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 10-7 to the Raiders.
Jalyn McEldowney made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Sara Dirksen, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Parkway). They blew past Crestview 23-6 on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won seven matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Brittyn Bruns made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Bryn Schoenleben was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with one home run, seven RBI, and two runs. Emmery Temple also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Parkway kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Crestview only managed nine.
Parkway's record is now 8-0. As for Versailles, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Versailles hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .339. However, it's not like Parkway struggles in that department as they've averaged .391. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
