The Winter Park Wildcats posted their biggest win since November 27, 2023 on Thursday. They blew past Mount Dora 53-30. Given Winter Park's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while Mount Dora is ranked 478th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Winter Park found their leader in underclassman Calista Rand, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Rand scored 15 or more points. Sam Childs was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Winter Park has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for Mount Dora, they bumped their record down to 3-8 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Winter Park won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Evans at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. As for Mount Dora, they will be playing in front of their home fans against South Sumter at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
