The Springfield Southeast Spartans suffered their biggest loss since December 9, 2023 on Saturday. They were beaten by Quincy 68-29. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Springfield Southeast has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, Springfield Southeast had strong showings from Marisa Gant, who scored seven points along with two steals, and Rakiyah Coleman, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds. Gant hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games.
Even though they lost, Springfield Southeast smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Quincy only pulled down three offensive rebounds.
Quincy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jada Brown led the charge by scoring 17 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Myley Longcor, who scored 14 points along with three steals.
Springfield Southeast's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-12. As for Quincy, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.
Springfield Southeast will take on Springfield at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Springfield presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Springfield Southeast in Illinois (Springfield is ranked 129th, while Springfield Southeast is ranked 289th). As for Quincy, they will head out on the road to square off against Geneseo at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Geneseo is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
