Henderson County is 1-6 against South Warren since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Colonels will face off against the Spartans at 9:00 a.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Henderson County had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Gibson Southern on Thursday. The Colonels blew past the Titans 11-5. Winning may never get old, but the Colonels sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Anna Kemp was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maggie Grogan, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Azayah Hall also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Henderson County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .405. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .345 or higher in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, South Warren faced Greenwood in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Spartans were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over the Gators. The win was nothing new for the Spartans as they're now sitting on ten straight.
South Warren also got a great performance from Emme Goss as she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits.
At the plate, McLaine Hudson was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Kinleigh Russell, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
South Warren's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Henderson County, their record now sits at 23-3.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Henderson County hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like South Warren struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.2 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Henderson County skirted past South Warren 2-0 in their previous meeting back in June of 2024. Do the Colonels have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
