The Boron Bobcats will face off against the Kern Valley Broncs at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Boron has given up an average of 10 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Friday just wasn't the day for Boron's offense. They came up short against California City last Friday, falling 21-0. The Bobcats' loss continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Kern Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They came out on top against Bishop Union by a score of 12-8 on Tuesday.
Sam Wyly made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Wyly was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Emmalyn Bechtel and Ashley Plante did most of the damage at the plate: Bechtel went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Plante went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave Bechtel a new career-high. Evagelene Burrows was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Boron's defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Kern Valley, their victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-5.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Boron has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .476. However, it's not like Kern Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .552. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Boron suffered a grim 15-5 defeat to Kern Valley in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Bobcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
