It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the First Academy Eagles can now relate to. They fell 55-42 to the Wildcats on Tuesday.
Despite the loss, First Academy still got an impressive performance from Amari Smith, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 16 rebounds. Smith has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last nine times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Rhett Walsh, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
It was another big night for Matty Vreeland, who scored 27 points along with five steals for Academy at the Lakes. Vreeland hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Nabil Delacurz, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds.
First Academy's loss dropped their record down to 12-11. As for Academy at the Lakes, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-13 record this season.
First Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Academy at the Lakes is on the road again on Thursday and plays North Tampa Christian Academy on February 8th. North Tampa Christian Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully Academy at the Lakes likes a good challenge.
