University is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Frankfort is on a ten-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Hawks will host the Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (University 2.2, Frankfort 1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
University is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Oak Glen, who was ranked 11th at the time (University was ranked ninth). The Hawks came out on top against the Golden Bears by a score of 11-7 on Wednesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Tegan Haney looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
At the plate, Olivia Masoner was a standout: she went 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Adalyn Brown, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
University kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Frankfort earned a 6-1 victory over Keyser on Friday. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Golden Tornado recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Rylee Mangold made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Mangold was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avery Noel, who fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Adison Pritts, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
University has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-4-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for Frankfort, their win bumped their record up to 25-0.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. University hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .394. However, it's not like Frankfort struggles in that department as they've averaged .441. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
