Softball Recap: Riverside Wins Going Away Against Troy Christian

Riverside's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They put the hurt on the Troy Christian Eagles with a sharp 13-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Riley Dillon made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Riverside let Brook Hunkler and Jayden Hoffer run wild. Hunkler fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-2, while Hoffer went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those two home runs gave Hunkler a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Emilee Robinson, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Riverside kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Riverside moved to 9-5 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Troy Christian, they dropped their record down to 0-5 with the loss, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Riverside will head out to square off against Covington at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Buccs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.17 runs per game on average), something the Pirates will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Troy Christian, they will venture away from home to challenge Lehman Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles are facing the Cavaliers at the right time seeing as the Cavaliers are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
