The Fort Lupton Bluedevils will head out to challenge the Byers Bulldogs at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Fort Lupton has given up an average of 12.8 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Fort Lupton couldn't beat Fort Morgan on Monday even though they stacked five runs on them in the third inning. The Bluedevils lost 31-5 to the Mustangs. The Bluedevils have struggled against the Mustangs recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.
Jesse Ceretto made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Byers entered their tilt with Crowley County on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Chargers with a sharp 9-0 win. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.
Jack Earl made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Byers is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-8 otherwise. Earl was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gabe Price, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Byers: the team is 5-2 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Chas Butterfield, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Byers was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Byers now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Fort Lupton, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-13.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Fort Lupton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Byers struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
