Two dominant guards in Dominick Phannolath and Daudi Aweyso are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Hunter Wolverines will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Granger Lancers at 7:00 p.m. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Hunter and five for Granger.
Hunter suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 68-34 loss at the hands of Juan Diego Catholic. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Hunter has scored all season.
Zaquel Cossa put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Uluaki Taukiuvea, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Granger struggled with assists on Tuesday (Cyprus had 14 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Granger was outmatched by Cyprus at home and fell 84-47. Granger has not had much luck with Cyprus recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Stephen Kpaleh put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 17 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Gukeisen, who scored five points.
Hunter has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Granger, their loss was their 19th straight at home, which bumped their record down to 2-12.
Hunter won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in January of 2023, slipping by Granger 66-65. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Granger's Isaac Begay, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Hunter to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
