Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Gulf Coast Sharks, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They fell 37-30 to Immokalee on Friday. That's two games in a row now that Gulf Coast has lost by exactly seven points.
Jace Seyler and Cayden Daugherty certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Seyler threw for 264 yards and three touchdowns, while Daugherty picked up 128 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Blake Tallstrom also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Even if they lost, Gulf Coast's defensive line sure didn't make it easy: Immokalee's QB was sacked eight times before it was all said and done. It was a group effort, with three picking up two apiece.
Trannon Villarreal went supernova for Immokalee, rushing for 120 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry, and also throwing for 261 yards and two touchdowns while completing 72% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Chandron Pierre, who picked up 94 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Gulf Coast are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-5. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Immokalee, Barron Collier, and Immokalee. As for Immokalee, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Gulf Coast does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Immokalee will head out on the road to face off against Venice at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Venice is coming into the game hot, having won their last nine games.
