The San Carlos Braves fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Arete Prep CHARGERS on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 73-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of the CHARGERS. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
San Carlos lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Leshawn Browning, who scored 20 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. Browning hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. Talen Pechuli was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.
Arete Prep's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ryan Mourad led the charge by scoring 23 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Crew Oetjen, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds.
San Carlos' defeat dropped their record down to 17-9. As for Arete Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 13-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. San Carlos will take on Leading Edge Academy - GEC at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Leading Edge Academy - GEC presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than San Carlos in Arizona (Leading Edge Academy - GEC is ranked 99th, while San Carlos is ranked 213th). As for Arete Prep, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Gilbert Classical Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th.
