Even though the Marina Mariners scored an imposing 61 points on Saturday, the Damonte Ranch Mustangs still came out on top. Damonte Ranch walked away with a 68-61 victory over Marina. Given Damonte Ranch's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked third in Nevada, while Marina is ranked 95th in California), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Damonte Ranch's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jiro Basabas, who scored 26 points along with 5 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Basabas has scored at least 25% of Damonte Ranch's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeriah Macias, who scored 20 points.
The victory for Damonte Ranch keeps them at an undefeated 7-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.1 points per game. As for Marina, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-1.
Damonte Ranch will be playing at home against Bishop Manogue at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Marina will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Soledad at 7:00 p.m. on December 20th.
