The Fossil Ridge SaberCats will take on the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Fossil Ridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
Fossil Ridge barely beat Loveland the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The SaberCats put the hurt on the Red Wolves with a sharp 16-1 win on Wednesday. The SaberCats haven't had any issues with the Red Wolves recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Vedant Sharma tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He also put up four walks, which were his first of the season.
On the hitting side, Mason Griffin was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in March of 2024. Tyler Kephart was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Fossil Ridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .523. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Loveland only posted an OBP of .355.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Mountain Vista and Arapahoe meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 2-1.
Mountain Vista also got a good showing from Advait Jadhav, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Jadhav has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Mountain Vista saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caden Kennedy, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Mountain Vista has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Fossil Ridge, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fossil Ridge has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mountain Vista struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
