The South Central Falcons will challenge the South Brunswick Cougars on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with South Central sitting on 11 straight victories and South Brunswick on six.
South Central is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Dixon, sneaking past 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Falcons have posted since April 17th.
Hailey Mickey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Blaire Adee, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kamdyn Haislip, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
South Central hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, South Brunswick got the win against Union Pines on Friday by a conclusive 7-1. Considering the Cougars have won 11 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
South Brunswick also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Kina Davis gave up only one earned run on four hits and racked up 12 Ks.
At the plate, Lily Knox was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI. Savana Burgess was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs.
South Brunswick's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for South Central, their victory bumped their record up to 19-6.
Both South Central and South Brunswick just can't seem to miss. The Falcons have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.7 hits per game. However, it's not like South Brunswick struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
South Central suffered a grim 14-3 defeat to South Brunswick in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
