The Tate Aggies will square off against the Central Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Tate barely beat Pine Forest the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Tate's pitchers stepped up to hand Pine Forest a 13-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Aggies haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Sheppard Edgar looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024.
At the plate, Tate let Nathan Connors and Taite Davis run wild. Connors scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Davis scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Lance Brady, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, Central had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it five last Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Warriors as they made off with a 13-3 victory.
Central got a massive performance out of Quincy Wilson, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Brock Reeves, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-2.
Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Central's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Tate, their win bumped their record up to 11-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Tate has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
