2A Region 2 recap October 8, 2013
Byers scaled the state rankings by moving to 160 from 196 this week, the biggest jump in 2A Region 2. The Lions were able to move up by beating West Tallahatchie 30-0.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Byers beat the Choctaws 30-0. The win marks sixth in a row for the Christopher Daniels' team.
The Lions' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Anthony Rubin threw for 156 and 2 touchdowns and Montavious Reynolds had 99 yards receiving. On the ground Marquis Moore contributed 126 yards. Moore helped Byers' passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 20 yards.
Reynolds was the best receiver in the league this week as Byers beat West Tallahatchie. Reynolds tallied 3 receptions for 99 yards. Moore helped Byers' passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 20 yards.
Byers' offense cannot be tamed this season and the Lions feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Rubin has thrown for 678 yards and 8 touchdowns this season, while Ronnie Dennis has 19 catches for 304 yards.
A big matchup in 2A Region 2 this week will be when Coahoma County takes on the Lions. The Red Panthers are in third place, while Byers is in first place.
Lorenzo Pimpton's team fell to the Lions 30-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
