The Pembroke Dragons are taking a road trip to square off against the Keshequa Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Pembroke 3.1, Keshequa 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Pembroke took a nine-run defeat the last time they faced off against Oakfield-Alabama, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Dragons came out on top in a nail-biter against the Hornets on Thursday, sneaking past 3-1.
Pembroke let Trey Newton and Jayden Bridge run wild. Newton went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Bridge went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.
Pembroke was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oakfield-Alabama only posted a batting average of .167.
Meanwhile, Keshequa strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Mount Morris a 14-0 shutout. The game marked the Indians' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Chris Ebersole made a splash while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Ebersole was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Nathan Hillier and Owen Pike did most of the damage at the plate: Hillier went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Pike went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Ryan Fox, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Pembroke's record now sits at 7-2. As for Keshequa, their record is now 6-0.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Pembroke has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Keshequa struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
