The Fillmore Central Panthers came tearing into Tuesday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, they made off with a 46-45 victory over Centennial. Given Fillmore Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Centennial is ranked 60th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fillmore Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jarin Tweedy led the charge by scoring 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiffin Theobald, who scored 11 points.
Centennial lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Devin Slawnyk, who scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was Ryan Richters, who scored 11 points.
Fillmore Central pushed their record up to 14-1 with that victory, which was their 12th straight at home. As for Centennial, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-4.
Fillmore Central will head out on the road to take on Gibbon at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Centennial, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Thayer Central at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Thayer Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 last Monday.
