Basketball Recap: Kenna Streeval Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Southwestern

Edinburgh hadn't done well against Southwestern recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Edinburgh Lancers snuck past the Southwestern Spartans with a 41-37 win. For the Lancers, this counts as revenge for the 42-40 victory the Spartans walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Edinburgh's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kenna Streeval led the charge by putting up 18 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Kinzie Purvis, who posted ten points and four steals.

Edinburgh smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in November of 2023.

Despite the loss, Southwestern still got an impressive performance from Tanna Tatlock, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 boards. That was a full 40.5% of Southwestern's points, marking the 19th time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points.

Edinburgh's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 9-12. As for Southwestern, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 14 of their last 15 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-17 record this season.

Edinburgh will head out to square off against Waldron at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Edinburgh is facing Waldron at the right time seeing as Waldron is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Southwestern, they will venture away from home to take on Brown County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southwestern will also cruise into their next match with the timing on their side: Brown County will have lost 14 straight heading into Tuesday's contest.
