The McKinley Red Dragons won the last time they faced the Brookfield Warriors, and things went their way on Friday too. McKinley walked away with a 52-41 victory over Brookfield. Given McKinley's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 166th, while Brookfield is ranked 344th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Stef Dorsey was the offensive standout of the game as he scored 18 points. Another player making a difference was Avon Fryer, who scored 11 points.
Brookfield's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matteo Fortuna, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds. Brandon Hardman was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds and three steals.
McKinley now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Brookfield, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 0-2.
McKinley will take on Lakeview at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Lakeview focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday. Brookfield won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Sharpsville at 1:30 p.m. on December 9th. Sharpsville is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
