Centerville has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Lovelady Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Centerville scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They blew past Latexo 78-54. Given Centerville's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 631st, while the Tigers are ranked 1402nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wade Neyland was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 28 points and 17 rebounds. He hasn't dropped below 15 points for 22 straight games. Another player making a difference was Trayce Schwab, who scored 18 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Lovelady made easy work of the Cougars on Tuesday and carried off a 64-43 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Lovelady.
Centerville's win was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-6. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points per game. As for Lovelady, the win got them back to even at 7-7.
Centerville beat the Lions 57-48 when the teams last played back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Centerville since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
