It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the St. Francis Red Raiders had no problem doing just that on Friday. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 21-20 win over Canisius. Winning may never get old, but St. Francis sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Francis to victory, but perhaps none more so than Johan Vasquez, who rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown. Landon Welka was in the mix as well, providing St. Francis with two touchdowns.
Canisius' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Jack Eskridge, who gained 110 total yards and two touchdowns. Eskridge was no stranger to the big play, connecting with a big catch that went for 61 yards. Elijah Kimble was another key contributor, rushing for 107 yards and a touchdown.
St. Francis is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season. As for Canisius, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
