Springfield is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Miamisburg a five-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Wednesday. The Springfield Wildcats will host the Miamisburg Vikings at 5:00 p.m. Springfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Springfield lost 8-1 to Northmont on Monday.
Springfield saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isabel Rogers, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Maiya Nicewaner also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
The home team had won the previous seven meetings between Miamisburg and Springboro, and Springboro kept the tradition alive. The Vikings fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 8-7 on Monday.
Ryla Zering put in work no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Katie Enneking made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Mikaela Holp was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Miamisburg's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Springfield, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.
Springfield's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's matchup. The Wildcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Miamisburg, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Springfield continue to outrun the ball?
