Basketball Recap: Simmons Extends Winning Streak to Two

Simmons won the last time they faced Leflore County and Moesha Hoskins did her part to make sure it happened again. The Blue Devils breezed past the Tigers to the tune of 48-21 on Tuesday for which the team can thank Hoskins, who posted seven points along with 16 steals and five assists. She has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 27 times she's played.

Another player making a difference was Vontaria Rush, who went 6-for-10 en route to 14 points in addition to five boards and five steals. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.4 steals per game.

Despite the loss, Leflore County still got an impressive performance from Jamareka Dixon, who scored seven points and six rebounds. Those points marked the first that Dixon has scored this season.

The win made it two in a row for Simmons and bumps their season record up to 4-1. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 57 points in those games. As for Leflore County, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Simmons will challenge O'Bannon at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Leflore County, they will square off against Palmer at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
