Pine Grove and Alcorn Central are an even 4-4 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The Pine Grove Panthers will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Alcorn Central Bears at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Pine Grove will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 121st, while Alcorn Central is ranked 27th).
Pine Grove unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak last Friday. They fell just short of Ashland by a score of 60-58. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Meanwhile, Alcorn Central didn't have too much trouble with Biggersville on the road on Monday as they won 52-33. The win was familiar territory for Alcorn Central who now have three in a row.
Pine Grove's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-5. As for Alcorn Central, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.
Pine Grove came up short against Alcorn Central in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, falling 48-38. Can Pine Grove avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
