The Wyoming Area Warriors will face off against the Pittston Patriots at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Wyoming Area was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Hanover Area on Thursday. The Warriors put the hurt on the Hawkeyes with a sharp 14-4 victory. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Hawkeyes recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Alexa Gasek spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kaia Brown and Renee Haddock did most of the damage at the plate: Brown went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Haddock went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs Haddock has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Marissa Giardina, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Wyoming Area was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Pittston got the win against Wyoming Valley West on Thursday by a conclusive 12-2.
Samantha Herbert made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Herbert was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Pittston let Gabby Roman and Marina Antal run wild. Roman went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Antal went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Julia Long was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Wyoming Area's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Pittston, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
