After a string of four wins, the University City Centurions's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 66-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of Olympian. University City was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Olympian apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2022.
University City lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ben Gavani, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Griffin, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, University City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Olympian only pulled down an offensive rebound.
Olympian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sammell Humphries, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jordan Walker, who scored 19 points.
University City's defeat dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Olympian, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 20-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. University City will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Coronado at 6:15 p.m. on January 16th. Coronado knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully University City likes a good challenge. Olympian will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Eastlake at 6:30 p.m. on January 24th. Eastlake will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 377th, while Olympian is ranked 115th).
