South Putnam hasn't had much luck against North Putnam recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Eagles will take on the Cougars at 5:30 p.m. South Putnam is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.

South Putnam lost 14-4 to Indian Creek on Tuesday.

Wyatt Mullin was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Drew Cline also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, North Putnam fell victim to West Vigo and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 2-0. The Cougars haven't had much luck with the Vikings recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.

Kaden Helderman was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

North Putnam's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for South Putnam, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. South Putnam has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like North Putnam struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

South Putnam might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from North Putnam in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
