If the West Grand Mustangs were feeling good off their 44-9 takedown of the Caprock Academy Eagles on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. West Grand fell 39-30 to Plateau Valley on Saturday. West Grand was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Plateau Valley apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
West Grand's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Luci Bruchez, who scored three points along with eight steals. Sara Lechman was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds.
Plateau Valley's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Meloni Miller, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds. Miller is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Macy Bevan, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.
West Grand dropped their record down to 10-5 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Plateau Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.
West Grand will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on North Park at 1:00 p.m. on February 17th. As for Plateau Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against North Fork at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully North Fork focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
