Last Tuesday, Damonte Ranch faced Spanish Springs in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Damonte Ranch managed a 48-43 win over Spanish Springs. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up nine more assists than your opponent, as Damonte Ranch did.
Damonte Ranch's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Josie Tierney, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds, and Mya Ghisletta, who scored 13 points along with four steals. That's the first time this season that Tierney scored 15 or more points. Kylee Moscove was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Meanwhile, Bishop Manogue had already won 12 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.2 points), and they went ahead and made it 13 on Tuesday. They breezed by Reed on the road to the tune of 81-42. Bishop Manogue's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Bishop Manogue's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mata Peaua led the charge by dropping a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Milasarai Tau, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
Damonte Ranch is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season. Bishop Manogue's record is now 14-1.
Tuesday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Damonte Ranch have been dynamite from deep this season, having only drained 30.2% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Bishop Manogue, though, as they've only nailed 32.7% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
