It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Homestead had no problem doing just that on Monday. They blew past the Fort Wayne South Side Archers 18-2. Considering the Spartans have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Macy Arnold was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 21 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Grace Jordan was a standout: she went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Taylor Sanders was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
Homestead always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .784. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory made it two in a row for Homestead and bumps their season record up to 21-6. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Fort Wayne South Side, they are on a 16-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.
