Even though the Williams Valley Vikings have not done well against the Tri-Valley Bulldogs recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Williams Valley snuck past the Bulldogs with a 56-51 win. The win was all the more spectacular given Williams Valley's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 463rd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 163rd).
When it comes to explaining why Tri-Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Layne Yoder. Despite the final result, he scored 23 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Yoder has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Luke Wehry, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Williams Valley has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 8-9 record this season. As for Tri-Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-4.
Williams Valley won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st. Shenandoah Valley is no doubt hoping to put an end to an eight-game streak of away losses. As for Tri-Valley, they will head out on the road to square off against the Red Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
