Alleghany is 2-8 against West Wilkes since February of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Alleghany Trojans will be home for the holidays to greet the West Wilkes Blackhawks at 6:00 p.m. Alleghany comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Last Friday, Alleghany came up short against South Stokes and fell 43-32. Alleghany has not had much luck with South Stokes recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Alleghany's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Sarah Bare, who scored nine points, and Paula Martinez who scored five points along with five rebounds and three steals. Martinez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played.
Even though they lost, Alleghany were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, West Wilkes was able to grind out a solid win over Surry Central on Friday, taking the game 49-42. The win was all the more spectacular given West Wilkes' disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 268th, while Surry Central is ranked 121st).
Alleghany's loss was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-7. As for West Wilkes, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.
Alleghany might still be hurting after the 53-33 defeat they got from West Wilkes in their previous meeting back in November. Can Alleghany avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
