Bertie fought the good fight in their overtime  contest against Martin County  on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result.  Despite the loss, Bertie still got an impressive performance from   Zymiere Dempsey, who  went 5 for 9  en route to 19 points in addition to five  steals and three  blocks. Dempsey's evening made it 11 games in a row in which  he has scored at least 15 points.  Jamarion Beverly also deserves some recognition as  he  posted his first  assist of the season.
 Martin County was led to victory by  Kwahli Basnight and  Jordan Matthewson.  Basnight  shot 4-for-6 from long range and  dropped  a double-double on 19  points and 11  rebounds, while  Matthewson  dropped  a double-double on 16 points and 15  boards. Martin County is 10-1 when  Matthewson posts ten or  more  boards, but 1-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was  Kamarion Larry, who  posted 14  points and three  steals.
Bertie's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Martin County, the  victory was  the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-3.
 Bertie has already played their next game,  a  45-34  defeat against Gates County on the 31st. As for Martin County, they also  wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next  match,  a  62-59  loss against Tarboro on the 31st.
