The Apex Friendship Patriots's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They fell 51-42 to Broughton. Apex Friendship was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Broughton apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2019.
Despite the loss, Apex Friendship still got an impressive performance from Avery Kiger, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds. That was a full 50% of Apex Friendship's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Apex Friendship struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Broughton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kendall Walpole out in front who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Jane Kern was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Apex Friendship's loss dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Broughton, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Apex Friendship will challenge Cary at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Cary focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight last Friday. Broughton won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Leesville Road at 6:30 p.m. on January 16th. Leesville Road will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
