San Diego Academy is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against Bayfront Charter, falling 20-1.
Meanwhile, Liberty Charter had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 20-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.
Layla Montgomery made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Angie Carreon was a standout: she went a perfect 5-for-5 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Briza Pelayo was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one double.
Liberty Charter always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ocean View Christian only posted an OBP of .167.
Liberty Charter pushed their record up to 6-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for San Diego Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
