The Southern Bulldogs won against the Annapolis Panthers last Monday with 54 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. Southern walked away with a 54-47 victory over Annapolis. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Southern.
It was another big night for Ava Wooster, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 13 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times she's played. Sidney Shaw was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six assists and three steals.
Annapolis' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mckenzie Fuller, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. That was a full 36.2% of Annapolis' points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Catherine King, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
Southern's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-5. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.0 points per game. As for Annapolis, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 9-4.
Southern will look to defend their home court on Monday against Western Tech & Environmental Science at 6:00 p.m. Southern is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 52.3 points per game this season. Annapolis will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against DuVal at 6:30 p.m. on February 6th.
