Lake Travis and Westlake are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2014, but not for long. The Lake Travis Cavaliers will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against the Westlake Chaparrals at 2:00 p.m. on December 2nd. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lake Travis had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They blew past Brennan 34-7 on the road. Given Lake Travis' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 14th, while Brennan is ranked 147th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Nico Hamilton was on fire: he rushed for 221 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. Hamilton hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games. Cole Munnerlyn also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Westlake put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 59-14 win over United.
Westlake's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Rees Wise, who threw for 115 yards and two touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes, and Jack Kayser, who rushed for 90 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries. Kayser was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 53 yards.
Lake Travis has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. As for Westlake, they have yet to lose a contest at home this season, leaving them with a 13-0 record.
Lake Travis came up short against Westlake when the teams last played back in September, falling 20-14. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Westlake's Kayser, who rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown. Now that Lake Travis knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
