Northern is on a six-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Huntingtown is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Northern Patriots will take on the Huntingtown Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Maryland (Northern is ranked 49th, while Huntingtown is ranked 37th).
Last Friday, it was a hard-fought contest, but Northern had to settle for a 19-17 loss against Calvert. Northern gained 53 more yards on the day, but it was Calvert that made the best of use of them.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Tyler Brown, who rushed for 93 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Huntingtown can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent contest on Thursday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 41-7 victory over St. Charles. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Huntingtown had established a 27 point advantage.
Huntingtown got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brody Whittington out in front who picked up 100 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in three touchdowns on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Kuntz, who threw for 260 yards and three touchdowns on only 18 passes.
Northern has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-3 record this season. As for Huntingtown, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as both teams haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Northern commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 4.6 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like Huntingtown struggles in that department as they've been even better at 5.4 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup.
Northern beat Huntingtown 13-6 in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Will Northern repeat their success, or does Huntingtown have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
