Having just played yesterday, the Dougherty Trojans will jump right back in to play the Jenkins Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Dougherty has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 278 points over their last four contests.
Dougherty has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 28 points or more this season. They blew past McIntosh County Academy 71-38 on the road. Given Dougherty's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while McIntosh County Academy is ranked 198th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Dougherty's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Markelle Jones led the charge by scoring 20 points. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaion Burns, who scored 11 points along with seven assists and six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Jenkins sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 48-45 win over Westover on Tuesday.
Dougherty's win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Jenkins, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
