The McLoud Redskins will take on the Sulphur Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. McLoud has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with ten straight defeats, while Sulphur will come in with four straight wins.
McLoud is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Mannford on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Redskins were outmatched by the Pirates and fell 41-13. The Redskins were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-7.
Despite the loss, McLoud had strong showings from Leroy Thomas, who rushed for 91 yards and one TD, and Phoenix Lopez, who rushed for 104 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries.
Meanwhile, Sulphur won against Cache last Friday with 42 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 42-20 margin over Perkins-Tryon. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by 20 points or more this season.
McLoud better keep an eye on Maddax Mobly. He was instrumental in Sulphur's win, rushing for 171 yards and a pair of scores on only 12 carries, while also picking up 80 receiving yards and one touchdown. Mobly also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing one fumble, making 14 total tackles (1.0 for loss), and defending one pass in addition to snagging an interception. Kale Brakefield was another key passer, throwing for 247 yards and three TDs on only 19 passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Sulphur was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 247 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 243 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.
Sulphur didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Drake Wood and Mobly.
McLoud's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Sulphur, their victory bumped their record up to 4-0.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. McLoud has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 198.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Sulphur struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 234.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
McLoud was taken down by Sulphur 57-14 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Redskins were down 57-7.
