Wesley Chapel is 2-8 against Sunlake since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Wesley Chapel is taking a road trip to challenge Sunlake at 8:00 p.m. Wesley Chapel is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
Wesley Chapel's last matchup with Horizon could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's match on Thursday. Wesley Chapel lost 8-1 to Horizon. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Wesley Chapel got a good showing from Ashley Bolt, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Bolt has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Wesley Chapel saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eliana Diaz, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was Diaz's first of the season.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Sunlake and Hudson had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. Sunlake was the clear victor by a 15-3 margin over Hudson on Thursday. The Seahawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by seven runs or more this season.
Sunlake also got a great performance from Sydney Walker as she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, Walker gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in February.
On the hitting side, Kaylee Lively was a standout: she scored three runs while going 3-for-3. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of McKinzie Smith, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Sunlake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Sunlake's record now sits at 10-4. As for Wesley Chapel, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Wesley Chapel hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .316. However, it's not like Sunlake struggles in that department as they've averaged .322. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wesley Chapel suffered a grim 15-8 defeat to Sunlake in their previous matchup back in February. Can Wesley Chapel avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
