High Point Academy and Southside Christian are an even 4-4 against one another since January of 2021, but not for long. The High Point Academy Grizzlies' homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Southside Christian Sabres at 7:45 p.m. on January 16th. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, High Point Academy strolled past St. Joseph's Catholic with points to spare, taking the game 54-36.
High Point Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jerry Jones, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and two steals. Jones is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was DeAnthony Ross, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, Southside Christian had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came out on top against Brashier Middle College Charter by a score of 56-44. That's two games straight that Southside Christian has won by exactly 12 points.
Southside Christian's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Syncere Williams, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds, and Josh Hennum, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryson Duck, who scored 11 points.
High Point Academy's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.2 points per game. As for Southside Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Fans should be in for an exciting game on Tuesday as High Point Academy and Southside Christian are among the highest scoring teams in the league right now. High Point Academy hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 57.2 points per game. It's a different story for Southside Christian, though, as they've been averaging only 50.5 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
High Point Academy didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Southside Christian when the teams last played back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 51-46 win. Will High Point Academy repeat their success, or does Southside Christian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
